Garmin Mobile XT with non Garmin receiver PPC

Files needed:

Que.exe
sw.unl
GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_41040w.exe
GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx.exe
GarminMobileXTFreeBasemap_4xxxx.exe
gmapsupp.img (Malaysia)

Installation procedure:

Start installation of GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_41040w.exe from PC through ActiveSync. Select your Storage Card as destination. During the installation, files will be copied to your storage card. The files should appear in \Storage Card\Garmin\Apps\WM.
Install GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx.exe for voice files.
Install GarminMobileXTFreeBasemap_4xxxx.exe for Garmin’s base map.
Copy gmapsupp.img to \Storage Card\Garmin for Garmin’s detailed map.
Copy Que.exe to \Storage Card\Garmin\Apps\WM.
Copy sw.unl to \Storage Card\Garmin. Now, use your Windows Mobile’s File Explorer and go to \Storage Card\Garmin\Apps\WM and run Que.exe. Garmin Mobile XT should launch without searching for Garmin’s GPS receiver.

I have succesfully installed and run Garmin Mobile XT on my PPC using internal GPS (Mitac Mio A700). However, I encounter one problem: The software sometimes quit by itself. I’m not sure what the problem is. Might be the lack of memory of my PPC or the patch it self is not stable yet. Always run the software from \Storage Card\Garmin\Apps\WM. If you run it from the Start menu, it will look for the original file (QuePPC.exe) and search for Garmin’s GPS receiver. Or simply create a short-cut on the start menu.

no. you do not need gps proxy.

hello
I’m from Brazil and created the gmapsupp.img using an opensource project available here for maps (tracksource.com.br), putting some .img together using img2map software
but it seems this patched Que is not recognizing my gmapsupp.img
I remember when I tried to use garmin mobile XT without the patch it could recognize this map

any hints?

just a little more detail, the error message I get is “Detailed maps are required to use this feature. Visit http://www.garmin.com for more information”

seems like your detailed map is not properly created. i’m not a pro anyway. u can try posting your question at http://www.malsingmaps.com. they provide a free detailed map for malaysia/singapore.
