Yesterday, I went to MPH Midvalley Megamall right after work.

I love books but I hate buying. Hahaha. Most of the magazines and books are so expensive. It is way beyond my budget. Especially those related to web design and development.

While browsing for interesting things to read, the title of this book instantly captured my eyes.

‘Secrets of Internet Millionaires Revealed’.

Written by Dr Irfan Khairi. His name needs no introduction in the world of online business here in Malaysia. He made himself popular here when he became a millionaire at the age of 25 while he was still studying in Staffordshire University. His success doesn’t come overnight of course, he was figuring out ways to make money online ever since the age of 18.

What he did was simple yet brilliant. He sells maps online - Malaysia maps. Thats all.

Back on those years, it was hard for foreigners who wish to visit this country to search or purchase map of Malaysia . Yes, they can purchase the maps once they are here but wouldn’t it be more efficient to get the maps before travelling so plans can be made?

He turned the problem into a business opportunity. He contacted a map supplier in Johor, ordered them in huge quantity and started selling online. Within 3 years, he made a million (Ringgit Malaysia) out of that.

He now focus his business in conducting workshops and writting books.

There are many more rare success stories that a lot of other Malaysians are not aware of. Probably because such successful entrepreneurs prefer to kept it low to avoid the attention of the mass media

1. in 1995, a Malaysian Malay man from Kedah who only finished high school became a millionaire in 1 year and 4 months by selling ‘Tongkat Ali’ or Eurycoma Longifolia on eBay and Yahoo! GeoCities.
2. In 1998, a Malaysian Chinese man from Penang who also only finished high school and could hardly write and speak English became a millionaire in about 2 years simply through his hobby! He loves to shoot videos and one day he sent a few short video clips of Malaysian natural sceneries to websites such as ‘Discovery’ & ‘National Geographic’ by email/ftp. His work caught the eyes of ‘Discovery’ & ‘National Geographic’ editors and they paid him a handsome amount of dollars for his creative work.

You don’t really need to be a tech expert to be an Internet millionaire. A unique idea and basic Internet skills is enough to be successful.

I badly want to be an Internet millionaire as well!
