Millionaires Cheapshot: Simple and Stupid Ways to Be One

  1. Solution 1 (for programmers only)
Write a small and simple software. Simple applications such as a scientific calculator or system specification reader will just do. Throw in some extra features and functions. Advertise the product. Make the potential users feel the necessity to purchase instead of downloading freeware applications offered by competitors. Make it available for download from top ranked download sites. Cnet’s Download.com for example. Sell it super cheap. As low as $1 USD and you’ll become instant millionaire when it reaches one million downloads.

  2. Solution 2 (for evil hearted person)
Take advantage of current global crisis. Global food crisis or the tropical cyclone Nargis that hits Myanmar are hot issues on news these days. Create a website. Highlight the selected crisis and request for donations. Minimum donations should at least be $2 USD. With one million people participating, you will receive $2 million in no time. Break the fund into two once you are done. $1 million goes for the needs and the other half is kept by you for running the show (claim it as management cost). You’ll need to state this carefully in a very fine printed ‘Terms and conditions’ which must be agreed by the participants to avoid getting sued.

I need to remind you that this act is evil. I do not recommend this solution.

  3. Solution 3 (for people with patience)
The third one is moral friendly compared to the second solution. But requires a lot of time and effort. Create a blog. Put ‘Pay per click’ advertisement inside it. Let it run for a month and see how the PPC progress. Only $10 USD for one month? No problem. Time to proceed to the next step. How many blog is required to achieve a million dollar? Do the math. Create another 999 blog. Which total up 1000 blog with different content. Do not use the same content on each blog. Creating duplicate content will cause you to be banned by PPC providers. You’ll receive $120, 000 USD in a year (assuming all blog maintains the same PPC income every month). You’ll reach the millionaire target in approximately 10 years time. Its a long run. But still worth it.

Carnival of Money Stories: Top 21 and I’m last!

I submitted my article — ’You can make money online: Dr Irfan Khairi‘ to Blog Carnival a fews days back under ‘Carnival of Money Stories’.

The article made it to the top 21 (and I’m last… hahahaha) for end of April weeks cut.

Carnivals are one of the easiest ways to get links and traffic and they do it for free. You can submit your article using the multi-carnvival submission form. However, do not spam the carnivals with irrelevant material (only submit to the carnivals that are a match for your content).

Blog Carnival editors will evaluate the articles you submitted and published it in their blog if you qualify. Done in weekly basis.

Its a great free marketing tool.

The Analytics: First Two Weeks

This domain existed with money in my mind. A test project. Can I follow the trails of successful bloggers who make a living just by blogging? Can I at least earn a few cash from this site so I can use it to pay for my car loan installment?

2 weeks have passed since the first launch. Let’s take a look.

To date, www.temp2escape.com had received 855 visits with 1,655 pages viewed mainly from ten countries worldwide. Malaysia, of course is first on the list followed by United States. Not bad for a two weeks start.

Referring sites such as Google and my existing blog (another) holds 56.26% of the total traffic sources.

As for the Pay Per Click advertisement (I only use Google Adsense, if you noticed), it only managed to squeezed out USD$ 3.00 out of 29 clicks.

Yes. The PPC progress is kinda slow at this moment.

Blogging for money is an art. More skills and techniques are required to success.

You can make money online: Dr Irfan Khairi

Yesterday, I went to MPH Midvalley Megamall right after work.

I love books but I hate buying. Hahaha. Most of the magazines and books are so expensive. It is way beyond my budget. Especially those related to web design and development.

While browsing for interesting things to read, the title of this book instantly captured my eyes.

Secrets of Internet Millionaires Revealed’.

Written by Dr Irfan Khairi. His name needs no introduction in the world of online business here in Malaysia. He made himself popular here when he became a millionaire at the age of 25 while he was still studying in Staffordshire University. His success doesn’t come overnight of course, he was figuring out ways to make money online ever since the age of 18.

What he did was simple yet brilliant. He sells maps online - Malaysia maps. Thats all.

Back on those years, it was hard for foreigners who wish to visit this country to search or purchase map of Malaysia . Yes, they can purchase the maps once they are here but wouldn’t it be more efficient to get the maps before travelling so plans can be made?

Choose your website colors: www.colorblender.com

It is always hard for me to choose colors that will perfectly blend into my website design. I’m not good in picking colors anyway. I will design site template with Photoshop under Grayscale color mode and do the coloring later.

Most of the time, I will search for sites or web templates with a similar concept and study their color for insipiration.

Until I stumbled myself into this brilliant color matching website - www.colorblender.com

Colorblender.com offers a free online tool for color matching and palette design. By dragging the ‘Edit Active Color’ slider option, it will automatically generate an auto match color based on your choice. You can also manually edit the colors by switching the radio button to ‘Direct Edit’. Still stuck? Just click on ‘Load a random blend’ and you will get different color blends each time you clicked.

Colorbender.com also make it easy for Photoshop and Illustrator users. You can download or send your color blend in their own respective formats (.act and .eps).

Wordpress: Font becomes Bold

A weird problem occurred right after publishing my previous post. The font somehow changed its properties to BOLD. Looks really ugly. It only affect the main page. “Did someone hack into my wordpress?”. I don’t know. It was just a thought. Maybe my CSS file got corrupted? I quickly open Filezilla, connect to my domain and replace the CSS file. The problem is still there. Even after refreshing the page. Definitely not CSS.

Solution 1:

  1. Try to remember what was the last post published before you realize this problem. The problem lies within the last post.
  2. Open the post with wordpress visual editor and look for an icon that looks like an eraser.
  3. Click the icon. It will remove any stange coding or formating.
  4. Save the post and view it with a browser.

Solution 2 (try this if the first solution didn’t work):

  1. Open the post with wordpress visual editor. Copy the post and paste it to any text editor such as MS Word.
  2. Delete the post.
  3. Write a new post. Do not copy and paste. You need to write the post again manually.

This problem usually occurs when the post is being copied and paste from another source (MS Word, notepad, the web etc…).

*in my case, I copied the post from a notepad.

I want that domain name!

Guides on buying a domain name

  1. Use common words. Make it easy to remember. Choose memorable and attractive names. These kinds of names will simply capture peoples attention.
  2. Do not use unfriendly and hard to pronounce/spell names.
  3. Max it to only two words. One word is even better.
  4. Avoid hyphens (-) if you can. Eg: Instead of typing www.job-street.com, a person can end up visiting www.jobstreet.com because of the missing hyphen. You are losing a lot of traffic here.
  5. Always look for domain name ending on .com because it is the frequent used ending for domain names (even Internet blind people knows what .com is).

These are a few questions I can recall when dealing with non IT savvy people.

“Are you sure…? .org? Not .com?”

“What is .org?”

“I missed out .my. I only typed .com instead of .com.my. No wonder the page looks different…”

You can try domain names wizard site that offers alternative suggestions if the domain name you are looking for was already registered. www.nameboy.com is a good start. If you do find the name that you want and it matches most of points listed above… my advice is - PURCHASE IT STRAIGHT AWAY! (as fast as you can). Because someone might have the same interest and the domain name is no longer available. This can happen in a matter of seconds. Trust me… I’ve experienced this with many domain names.

Some people bought domain names just for the pleasure of doing bussiness. By selling it at a much higher price to those who really want the name.

Dreamweaver CS3: Blue box link

I have recently upgraded from Dreamweaver 8 to CS3. The interface remains almost the same. Dreamweaver 8 users should feel comfortable with the familiar environment. I just need to learn and get used to the new features and enhancement added in this new version. I kept running into one annoying ‘little problem’ which I never encounter in prior version of Dreamweaver. A blue box appeared everytime I created a link within an inserted image. It is not a designer visual aid for sure because the blue box remains wrapping the image when viewed with a browser. Solution:

  1. Click on the image once and take a look at Properties panel at the bottom of the program.
  2. It should show the properties (width, height, source, link…) for image that you just clicked.
  3. Look for ‘Border’ option and insert ‘0′ (zero, without the quotes) as its value. Blank fields are not the same as zero.

Problem solved!

Evolusi KL Drift: Review

Last night, I went out with my friends to Pavillion KL to watch a movie. A latest release from the local movie scene - Evolusi KL Drift. Basically it is a local ripped off version of the Hollywood blockbuster, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift movie.

There was another Malaysian drifting movie prior to this one titled Impak Maksima. Lets compare them head to head (Impak Maksima VS Evolusi KL Drift).

Soundtrack: Impak Maksima (listen to Marabahaya by Pop Shuvit and you’ll know why…)

Shot and CGI effects: Evolusi KL Drift (i didn’t notice any CGI in this movie but the shots are well done)

Storyline: Equal (I find them both exceedingly boring)

Acting: Equal. Lame acting.

Drift and Stunts: Evolusi KL Drift (they uses real car for the final accident. A rare attempt for Malaysian movie)

The Winner: Both movie are just — OK. Evolusi KL Drift, if you still want me to pick.
